I am on an experimental journey to rediscover my art practice after serving the design and non-profit arts sectors for over 20 years. Unbound by the confines of client-based work, I’m shifting to a place of manifesting myself through my art. My current art practice focuses on abstracting concepts of human behavior and emotions through process-based art, while sourcing nature and investigating a multitude of media and materials. Process has become the focus, as opposed to my ideal outcome. Abstracting has kept me working intuitively and focusing on the materials. Representation is important in conveying the emotions I want the viewer to experience. Materials and techniques used quite often in my work include book pages collaged as base layers, mark making with charcoal and graphite, paint to obscure and reveal moments, and found objects used as representational symbols. I am developing my practice by setting up structures and variables in my process to assist with making confident decisions during the uncomfortable and questionable moments.
